The Gift

Recently I threw a tea party for a group of friends. I love tea parties. A few mornings after the party the Lord showed me something in my sleep. He showed me that there are two different types of tea parties. The first tea party is thrown as a gift like the one that I gave for my daughter’s 16th birthday and this party for my friends. The second type of tea party is one that is provided to customers for a price.

When I put on my daughter’s gift tea party for her and her friends, I didn’t worry about all the hours I put into preparation or the cost of the food and tea. It was a gift and I gave it freely.

A tea party provided by a business has to take cost into consideration though; or the business will fail. Hours have to be added up and charged. Receipts need to be saved for the food and tea because they are all part of the bill to the customer.

There is a difference between a gift and a business transaction. Jesus left heaven to live a life on earth. He spent time teaching, healing, and serving. Jesus gave his life for our salvation. He didn’t count the cost. He gave himself freely. His life was a Gift and He keeps giving. There is nothing we can do or give that can repay Him for His Gift.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast Ephesians 2:8-9
