Rings that Glisten
One Wednesday Joe and I visited my daughter's church in Seattle. While we listened to the service I was amazed at how my rings glistened. Light danced across the surface. They were as beautiful as when they were new. On the way home I wondered what would have cleaned up my rings so well. Was it my daughter's washing detergent? This didn't make sense. I didn't wash my rings in detergent.
I walked into her house that night and noticed that my rings didn't shine as beautiful as they did at church. Sunday morning came and we were blessed with another wonderful message from the Word. My rings were shining again! I realized that the lights in the sanctuary caused my rings to shine.
So I started wondering, "Are there lights in heaven to make everything so glorious?" But the Holy Spirit told me, "No, Jesus is the light in heaven."
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. Revelation 21:23 (NKJV)
I can't wait to see heaven but what about life here and now? The Bible tells us that Jesus came into this world to bring light into darkness. John witnessed Christ Jesus the Light.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. John 1:6-10 (NKJV)
Did you know that Jesus called us the "light of the world"? He wants us to shine brighter then my rings.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14 (NKJV)
Jesus provides the light when we invite him into our hearts. He wants us to choose to shine for Him every day. In the same way I noticed my rings in church when the light shined on them, the world will notice when we let Jesus shine His light on our heart and lives. His light gives us power from God to reach the lost.
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 2 Corinthians 4:6, 7 (NKJV)
I encourage you to shine for Jesus today. Let the light of Jesus twinkle from your face and reflect from your actions. Make a decision to be the "light of the world" today.
