Poison Bites

We saw our share of mosquitoes and spiders bites this year. Those critters leave a little poison or infection when they bite us. I thought about this the other day and the Lord reminded me of a scripture in Mark:

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16: 15-18 (NKJV)

Then God spoke to me. This verse doesn't mean that we should drink poison on purpose or pick up snakes. But we are told that Jesus offers us protection from the poisons that will weaken and even kill us. The real threat to our Christian walk every day is the poison of religion.

God's word is full of promises to heal us, to empower us with the Holy Spirit and to give us abundant life.  This year at camp we were encouraged with many of these promises. Isn't it interesting how the mosquitoes of religion quickly fly in and bite us as soon as we receive something from the Lord? Those pests try to prevent us from living full and rich lives in Christ Jesus?

Joe and I pray for many folks every week. It is such a joy and privilege to see people healed and set free. Sadly though, many of these folks return to their homes and are bitten by the religious spiders lurking in their churches or in their communities. These nasty bugs bite and infect believers. Satan uses them as instruments to sicken believers. But Mark 16 tells us that we can survive these bites.

Christ Jesus has provided the insect repellant in His Blood.  His blood is a salve of protection and repellant. It heals us and protects us.

Jesus provided His Word so we can distinguish right from wrong. The Word of God is our doctrine and we must prove every word of man against the Word of God.

Joe and I know how difficult it is to live in a place where every word contradicts the Gospel of Christ. My heart breaks as I think about fellow believers who stand day by day for Christ Jesus amongst a swarm of pestilence. We pray for you my friends.

His very own Holy Spirit is ready to council you today. Reach out to Him. He will guide you to the truth.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:7-13 (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit gives us a discerning spirit of right and wrong. Hold on to the promises of God. Verify every word of man with the Word of God.
