Healed from Allergies
By Dottie Schueler
In the northwest United States allergies are a problem for many people. They weren't a problem for me for many years but that changed when I was pregnant with my son. I had a difficult time sleeping. My doctor told me to take a little Benadryl to help me rest. I was desperate for sleep so I took his advice.
After my son was born I realized that I was sneezing more and more. Sneezing started taking over my life. I remember that my husband was concerned about my driving when I sneezed. He cautioned me, "Slow down the car when you feel a sneeze coming on". I was frustrated, so I made an appointment with my doctor. He told me that I had developed allergies. He prescribed medicine. Soon I was taking several different prescriptions regularly. I took allergy medicines for several years and I accepted these prescriptions as the solution to my problem.
Through the years, each new season brought another set of problems. Then I was told that my problem could be corrected with nasal surgery. The surgeon said, "Surgery will eliminate 98% of your allergy problem and 95% of your sinus problems will be corrected." I did see improvement for a few years but the allergies came back and I found myself dependent on allergy medicine again. Allergy medicine didn't work anymore so I had to start taking seasonal shots.
I was tied to six different medicines and I had to keep them in my purse, in my car, beside my bed, and throughout my house. Each day I was prepared to treat an asthma attack wherever I was. I was pretty sick and tired of allergies. I felt depressed. The problem was getting bigger and I could find no solution.
I believe that God heals people. I prayed for healing. But as I look back at this time I realize I never asked God to heal me. Allergies are such a common problem. It just didn't occur to me that I could ask God to heal these symptoms. Isn't it interesting how Satan can talk us into accepting sickness as a way of life?
Life was changing again. My daughter came into our lives and my son started attending school. We spent time driving to and from his school every day. The three of us enjoyed listening to Christian radio on these trips. Our favorite programs were Kenneth Hagen Sr. and Sid Roth's Messianic Vision program. For about three months Brother Hagen gave his testimony about how God healed him. And Sid Roth interviewed guests who shared their testimonies of God's healing.
I was inspired by these radio programs to seek God's healing for my allergy problem. Faith for God's healing was birthed within me at this time. I believe in the Miracles that Jesus did and I believe that we can pray for the sick and they will recover.
And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Mark 16:15-18 (NKJV)
Five years with allergies had passed and I was determined not to go through another year. I had enough. So I started praying over myself. Every morning I prayed while I readied myself for the day. As I looked at my reflection in the mirror I said, "You are healed from allergies by the stripes of Jesus. The blood of Jesus has washed me pure and clean. I am free from allergies." When I was attached with sneezing or when the deep chest coughs started, I continued my confession. "I am healed by the stripes of Jesus."
I meditated over and spoke out Isaiah 53 and 1 Peter 2. I imagined that Jesus bore my sickness on the cross. I desired to be healed. I knew my healing would happen. I could taste, smell and feel freedom form allergies and medicine. I could see myself healed. I took authority over Satan and said, "Devil you take your sickness and get going!" I stood and believed for a couple years. At times it seemed like a long time, but I had already suffered with allergies for 5 long years, so what did I have to lose? I had hope for healing.
That same year my husband and I had decided to read the Bible from beginning to end. We agreed not to worry about how long it took us to read through the Bible. Instead we focused on studying carefully what we read. I remember the wonderful discussions we had as we compared notes each day.
Our reading commitment started in January. By April I was reading the book of Samuel. I remember this day vividly. It was a Saturday morning and I was suffering an allergy attach. I retreated to a hot bath. The steam loosened my chest and nose. The symptoms made me weary and blue. I remember being so blue and congested that I said to myself, "I will go and get my bible because that is my only comfort." Reading God's word gave me comfort.
I started reading 1 Samuel 17. Israel had a problem. The Philistines were lined up to battle against them and they had a really large bully leading them. Goliath was an arrogant fellow who knew the Israelites feared him.
Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.” And the Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.” 11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. 1 Samuel 17:8-11 (NKJV)
We are introduced the young boy David next. David was the youngest in his family. In the worlds eyes he was the least equipped to fight Goliath. David's father asked him to deliver provisions to his brothers and find out how things were going. Do you think David was aware of the battle being fought when he watched sheep in his father's pasture? He probably had a limited understanding of the battle. This is where I was. I had a limited understanding of the battle being fought against me.
Then as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines; and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid. So the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and give his father’s house exemption from taxes in Israel.” Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:23-26 (NKJV)
"David described the problem clearly when he called Goliath an "Uncircumcised Philistine". Then he went right to the heart of the matter. He explained that Goliath's words offended God. As I read this scripture it seemed that the atmosphere in the room changed. I heard Jesus say to me, "Those allergies are your Uncircumcised Philistine and they are an offence to God because God does not want you to suffer sickness." His voice was not audible, I heard him in my spirit.
Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did. Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him. Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!” 1 Samuel 17:28-37 (NKJV)
David knew he had to do something about Goliath. Notice how people in authority around David tried to discourage him. First his own brother Eliab said to him, "with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness".
Jesus ministered to me while I read. He asked, "Do you think David only had a few sheep that he tended?"
I responded to his question with, "I don't think David was tending a few sheep. I think he must have had a good sized herd. Eliab wanted to downscale what David did on a daily bases. He tried to make David feel insignificant and accused him of pride and a sinful heart. His brother was accusing him of sin!"
It is important to point out here that Jesus was walking me through this study, step by step. He was walking me through this miracle.
King Saul heard about David's bold statements. Saul had David brought before him. David was told by the king that he could not possibly win a fight with Goliath. In my life this was something like a Doctor or a Pastor telling me that healing is not possible. There are times people around us try to discourage God's miracle for us. In my case doctors told me I would never overcome allergies. David knew what he had to do and he was confident in the Lord.
As I read Jesus rose up inside of me. And I said, "Allergies you are an uncircumcised philistine in my life. I know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Allergies you are defying the Spirit of the living God who dwells in me. The same Lord who died on the cross for my sins also died for my sickness and He will deliver me from these allergies!" I read on.
So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. 1 Samuel 17:38,39 (NKJV)
Jesus stopped me with this verse and said, "These allergies are like a heavy garment weighing down on your shoulders. This garment is a man made remedy like medicine or the words from a doctor or surgeon."
The Lord showed me that I was putting on a tunic that didn't fit me. My tunic was the medicine I was taking and medicines just masked the problem. They never did correct the problem. David dropped the tunic, picked up five stones and grabbed his sling shot. He chose to use the tools he knew to take down Goliath. I learned that my tools are the Word of God, Faith, the testimony of the saints, my confession and putting God's direction into action.
Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:40-47 (NKJV)
I felt like Jesus was speaking to me right there in the tub. I needed to get rid of the Goliath in my life and cut its head off. I remember asking the Lord, "How do I do this?" When I asked how to do this, Jesus gave me directions on how to take authority over those allergies. I remember physically stepping out of the tub and taking authority over those allergies.
Then Jesus gave me the words to say. I said, "I come against you in the name of the living God. This day I strike you down and I cut your head off. Allergies, how dare you attach a child of the living God!"
None of this was my own words. Jesus told me what to say, word for word. I was told to attack the allergies in my body just like David attached Goliath. In my mind I saw myself pick up five stones, load them in a sling and then I hurled them at my allergies. Then I reached for a sword and cut the head off those filthy Philistine allergies! I remember addressing each symptom one by one. With each symptom I said, "Sneezing I cut you off in the name of Jesus." I named each symptom, first sneezing, than thick headedness, fogginess, stuffiness, sinus headaches, and heaviness in my chest etc.
So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. 1 Samuel 17:48-50 (NKJV)
Those allergies died that day. They were no longer mine. From time to time they have tried to come back but I remind them that they are dead in Jesus name and they leave. A year ago I visited my doctor for a physical. He started running down a long list of medicine that I don't use anymore. One by one he realized they were not needed and removed them from the list. I had an opportunity to share my healing testimony with him. I'm blessed with a Christian doctor so we were praising God together.
If you are struggling and in need of healing, I encourage you to seek God for your healing.
Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24(NKJV)
