Gatekeepers

I prayed and asked the Lord for a topic for the September newsletter. Early in the morning I heard the Spirit of the Lord speak "Gatekeepers". The Israelites placed gatekeepers on the gates to their cities and the gates to the house of God. Murders and Robbers were not allowed into the city. Visiting strangers were inspected before they were allowed to enter.

And when he flees to one of those cities, and stands at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declares his case in the hearing of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city as one of them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.  Joshua 20:4

For in this trusted office were four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites. And they had charge over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.  1 Chronicles 9:26

The Lord reminded me of home alarms and how they work. If someone enters the house without a code the alarm goes off. Thieves trip the alarm when they break in and soon they are taken away by policemen.

How does this apply to Christians?

We need to be the Gatekeepers of our heart and mind. Sometimes the enemy wakes us early in the morning and torments our mind with things that happened in our past. He reminds us of the hurts, the pains, and the failures of our past. The slightest unguarded door is an opportunity for Satan to slip in uninvited. We must be diligent Gatekeepers night and day.

You know a door can't be closed properly if someone's foot is wedged between the frame and the door. Satan has more effective tools than his foot. He uses our lack of faith, our fear and our attitudes to block the door open.

Don't fall into this trap. Prepare your heart and mind on purpose every day. Renew your mind daily with the Word of God. Wash yourself daily with the Blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus will help you close the door to Satan. The blood of Christ Jesus seals the smallest cracks.

Start today. Ask Jesus to help you guard the door of your heart and mind diligently. Ask him to seal you with his blood.

Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,  who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.   2 Corinthians 1:21-23
