Does God Still Heal?

I want to share a testimony about a lady who was healed of cancer. Nick and I lived in Mill Creek Washington at the time. My parents were visiting us for a few weeks. A pastor from Sumner asked my Dad to minister on Sunday night.

Dad asked me if I would drive him down to Sumner. I agreed. The service started. As the singing ended I noticed a lady and gentleman walking in. Her hair was almost completely white but she didn’t seem more than about 50 years old. She a was slender, pretty woman wearing a beautiful dress. I was sitting in the last row on the Right. She sat with her gentleman on the last row on the left. I had a good view of them both.

The Pastor introduced Dad. Immediately the slender lady stood up and said, “Mr. Hofer, do you remember me?”

Dad looked puzzled and finally responded to her, “No Mama, I don’t believe I do.”

She said, “I am the women you prayed for last year when you were here. Do remember the lady who had cancer? I only had a few days left to live when I saw you last. I came here today to share my testimony about what happened to me after you and Rachel prayed for me last year. I am completely healed of Cancer. No, the cancer is not in remission. The cancer is one hundred percent gone. I am totally healed.”

Well Mom and Dad both had to do a double take. They remembered the lady they prayed for a year before. She looked like skin over bones. The lady they prayed for almost fell into their arms the year before. It was remarkable. She looked healthy and attractive for 50-something.

I remember thinking, “I hope I look like that at 50-something.”

When Jesus died on that cross a little more than 2000 years ago:

  • He died for all our sins

  • He was crushed for our wickedness

  • He was wounded for all our transgressions

  • He bore all our griefs

  • He was rejected by men

  • He was despised

  • He was oppressed for us

  • He was afflicted for us

All our sin, all our injustice, all our wrong doings where laid on him. His wounds and his stripes bought us healing.  Isaiah 53:5 says that we ARE Healed. Jesus didn’t leave his work on the cross unfinished.

Later that evening the lady shared the whole story with us. A year earlier her gentleman friend brought her to the meeting. He heard that Joe and Rachel Hofer pray for the sick and the sick are healed. He asked her, “Why not go and get prayed for?”

With the help of her friend and a walker she came up for prayer. She said, “After we left the church that night I got hungry for a steak. I had not eaten hardly anything for weeks. I had no appetite. But after church I was hungry.”

She nodded to him, “He said I will take you to the best steak house in town. And he did. I ate a big baked potato, a T-bone steak, vegetables and toast. We shared a dessert.”

God total heals! And yes, He heals today, right now.

On the ride, home that night, we were visiting about this healing. Mom said, “I remember when that lady came up for prayer last year. When I laid my hand on her chest, she moved my hand because she was in so much pain. I can remember smelling cancer. The smell was so bad the smell hung in my lungs on the drive all the way back to your house.”

Mom grinned and said, “I’m glad God does the healing. God doesn’t say, “Oh that looks really bad”. God is bigger than the sickness. He just thought about His love for her. He healed her instantly.”

What a wonderful experience. I witnessed a person healed from cancer.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
