Some time ago we had a musician-comedian visit our church. He sang and poked fun at the Devil. I remember laughing so hard my sides hurt. I really enjoyed that evening. After church I went home to an empty house. Joe had some work he was doing up at the ranch. After a bit I decided to turn in. I walked down the hallway to our bedroom and while I walked I heard the devil say, "We will see if you laugh tonight."
His voice was so real I stopped in the Hallway. I could not move. I could not speak. I was scared. Immediately Jesus told me to say, "Greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world". (1 John 4:4) I barely whispered the scripture. Jesus said, "You need to say it louder". The devil was there to torment me. Jesus came along side me and taught me on how to resist the devil. I repeated the words a little louder and then louder until I was shouting. I was loud and clear. I sensed the fear flee from the house.
I went back to my bedroom and dressed for bed. An hour later I heard voices. It sounded like a commotion in the living room. At first I thought Joe had brought home a bunch of people. I called out, "Joe!" Immediately Jesus spoke to me, "That isn't Joe, it's the devil. He has gone and brought an army with him". I stood up and pleaded the blood of Jesus over me. I called the angels of heaven to guard and protect our property. I rebuked the devil and told him to take his army and go right back to hell where he came from. Then I went to sleep.
A short time later I woke to what sounded like a herd of horses running beneath our house. I sat up and said, "Oh, it's only you, you stupid devil." Then I went back to sleep. I woke up the next morning and found my clock had stopped at 4 AM. The lord spoke to me immediately saying, "That's when the victory was won last night. I stopped that clock so you could see". I knew that old fashioned clock pretty well. I had to wind it to keep it running. When I tried to wind the clock I could wind it just a little bit. It had a full week before it needed winding. The Lord really did stop the clock.
Dear friends, I know two things for sure. First, satan is not our friend. He is out for one thing.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10
But more importantly, Jesus is a friend who is always near.
For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
